Heidi, Maria and Lucy!

My goodness! can't believe I've been this delinquent in posting. Part of it has been a time crunch for meeting deadlines, but that has been aggravated by some medical complications due to past injury. I ask for your continued patience and support. It will take some adjusting but I will continue to create. I just need time to figure out how to work within my limitations.

That being said here is a sneak peak of what some of you can look forward to at the upcoming fall shows.

The first I guess is an influence from "Heidi" or "The Sound Of Music" I can't tell which, it all started when friends of mine said they were going to vacation in Austria this year, my imagination did the rest.

Also a pic of some of the finished pieces including a witch and a Gypsy which my friends tell me must have been influenced by "I Love Lucy" episode were Lucy plays the Queen of the Gypsies.. Gyp, Gyp, Gyp, Gypa Gypsies!

Od course now I'm crunching to finish all the accessories on time to ship. Regardless I look forward to seeing all of you again at Halloween & Vine on September 25th in Petaluma and on October 9th at Spirits in Sanford in Florida.

Im also very excited to meet new collectors and fellow STJ Artist at SpookyTime Jingle Soiree on October 15th. Wheeoo! now wonder I'm stressed. See Ya all there!

Trilogy of Terror and GI Joe's

Hey everyone just trying to stay on schedule for the upcoming shows. Life has a way of throwing stray balls at you and I'm no exception. With my busiest show schedule yet my shoulder injury seems to be flaring up badly, hence the lack of postings.

That said, I thought I'd share some of what I've been busy with. My village people got some clothes and hats. I've also been playing with backdrops for them, maybe eventually they can become cards, you never know
.
But they were a little lonely so I started a new batch, thanks to miracles of pain medications. Some friends will be coming by to help me with the basics, priming, base-coating etc. in exchange for pizza.

Creations seem to be coming out of the woodwork or out of the oven literally.

They do seem like something out of Dawn of the Dead, or better yet "Trilogy of Terror".
I know I'm dating myself but does anyone remember Karen Black in that.

The segment was called "Amelia"


She brings home a Zuni doll, the chain binding the warriors spirit falls of, the doll comes to life and the fun begins.

I was terrified for days after, and hid all my GI Joe's just in case.
Compared to today's technology the Zuni doll's movement seem comical, but in it's day it was very effective. The story still holds up it's just the juju that seems childish.
Well I gotta get back to my dolls so that they can come to life in time for their debuts. Thanks everyone for your continued support and encouragement.

The Village People... Undressed

She's Baaack!

Hello everyone! First up Talula is finally out of the woods and doing great, thanks for all you well wishes. Just returned from the Vet from removing her stitches. Primarily she was the reason for the lack of post. She ended up having Piometra (hope spelling is right) which is an infection of the uterus. She had to have emergency surgery where upon they discovered it had ruptured causing peritonitis, argh!

Well thankfully as you can see she's back at her perch with her accomplice in crime Cosa, who doesn't seem too happy to share that perch on such a sunny day.

So most of my time was spent nursing her back, with antibiotics, food and love, so that left little time for catching up. Hence the undressed village people. These folks transpired as company for the Widow Jones (remember her) and her Sister Candela, whom you've not been introduced too yet.

I should have them all in decent attire soon so check back.

I was however, able to finish some pieces that I am very happy with. A couple of witches, a scaredy cat and JOL Luminaria.

They are all ready for the upcoming shows. SHOWS, Yikes! I gotta get back to creating.

Hello and Goodbye

Hello and Goodbye

Just wanted to introduce you all to these to characters that are about to be sent on their way to collectors, thank you guys for your continued support. They snatched them up from my Newsletter which include a very bad WIP picture of them. You never know!

I had to share them since I am very happy with they way they came out.

First is one of my Teapots, this guy is horrified to find a spider perched on his party hat oh my! His cap comes off and he's a candy container.

Then there is this lovely little darling, she is a terrific Luminaria! She really is something when she's all lit up, of course it helps if your lit up too.

Yesterday was one of those days, you know the kind were you can't seem to get going but your all revved up but can't focus! I took a friends advice and help and reorganized my studio.

Which by the way seems to be spilling into the rest of my Apartment, this use to be my dining room, anyway going through I discovered little objects and sketches for Ideas that never came to fruition. Now my studio is nice and clean and organized, a good thing since now I'm really revved up but have a better direction.

Moral: Clutter can be creative!

"I've Been Enchanted"

Can't believe it's been as long as this since my last post, but I did want to let everyone know I'm still kicking.

I guess in a nut shell it goes as follows. Deadline for National Halloween Convention spun me into a flurry of work letting me meet the deadline, but missed STJ Update. After shipping said works to NHC I noticed that my cub bards were bare for all my upcoming commitments and commissions. Nose to the grindstone again, I worked through a bad shoulder that was acting up, with stress levels flaring, I got sidetracked by one nasty flu and life issues needing attention. Fast forward to now, still at the grindstone but with a little more respect for what stress and a bad shoulder can do I'm pacing myself.

That said right before the literal poo hitting the fan I received a prize from one of my all time favorite bloggers, which leads us back to the heading "Ive Been Enchanted" I had no idea that I was to receive such an Iconic treasure. Tristan over at Enchanted Revelry sent me this wonderful confection of Marylyn. You can pic up one of his creations at his Etsy shop link found on his blogspot.

The pic does not do it justice. Do pass by and visit you won't regret it, his unique spin, humor and gift of a great raconteur will always make your day, as it does mine.

And now a quick peek at my latest WIPS and finished pieces. It may seem like I'm going a little gaga over luninarias but they are fun to make.

Working on some other dolls and figures that are not ready for prime time yet, but I can't wait to share with all of you. All that said it's back to the grindstone for me. I do promise to make more frequent postings, even if it's about my dinner.

EHAG Emporium and "The Widow Jones"

It's that time of month again. Time for the EHAG Emporium and Introducing

The Widow Jones

You'll first notice that this is an out of the ordinary piece for me, but I think you'll agree it is the start of something wonderful to add to my repertoire. "Fully attired" paper-mache figures, in this case a Day of the Dead Doll.

Here she is, the Widow Jones. She is a hand made and painted paper-mache doll figure, with an original handmade period costume. She measures 22" tall from her wooden base to the top of her feathered hat, 9" wide and 12" deep from from front of skirt to the end of her ruffled train. The fabrics range from reclaimed black cotton chintz to vintage black lace trim. I've embellished her with wonderful detailing and accents like pearl studded bow buttons, and a vintage cameo pin that she dons on her lapel. She sports a milliner's confection top hat with feathers ,ribbon, bows and tulle veil, trimmed in accenting purple ribbon. Her bustle and overskirt are in a flocked damask pattern that is also an insert in her bodice. She holds a carpet bag made of old tapestry fabric with braided leather handle and button bead clasp. She has an underskirt bustle with ruffles of cotton poplin. Standing on a wooden base her red high top boots peek out from under her voluminous skirt . She is packed and ready to travel to your home for a prolonged visit.

Yesterday I got a pleasant surprise I wanted to share with you all. A friend of mine called a couple of days ago and said he had " a thrift shop find he said had my name all over it". I said great would see hem Sunday, thought nothing more of it and went back to work.

Sunday came around and so did my friend Carlos. Well Lo and behold the surprise.

A vintage scale model of a human skeleton! Isn't he wonderful! Not only is he a great reference for my work he is a great decorative item for my home and studio. Not to mention a great Halloween decoration. Can you imagine him all spruced up as a centerpiece on my Halloween Buffet table.

Can't wait till October comes around, love them bones.

Don't forget the update on the EHAG Emporium tomorrow evening.

This I'm most excited about since I'll be introducing my first attired figure "The Widow Jones" following is just a sneak peak, so do stop by for your chance to get your hands on her.
