The above definition best applies to my absence from theblogasphere and online presence in general. If you’ve been following me for awhile,you’ll be familiar with my trials and tribulations of which I’ve no need ordesire to recount. Suffice it to say “ my cup runneth over…” , with what, I’llleave to your very capable imaginations.

As most of you havefigured out by now, partly voluntary and partly by circumstance, I have been onhi·a·tus.

Regardless, it hasbeen most welcome and needed in the end. Funny how sometimes we cannot see theanswer, which is right in front of us. That which is most obviously neededseems somehow inconceivable. One way or another life has a way of making younotice and forcing you to react. It has been a time of reflection as well as inventory. Time to accept mylimitations as well as my potentials. Knowing one will define the other andvice a versa.

Time to be thankful for all the goodness and blessings in one’slife. Thankful for kind words, well wishes or encouragement sent my way. Thoseare things that feed one’s soul and give one strength in the best or worst oftimes.

Time to plan, to foster thoughts and Ideas, new and old. Someoneonce said:

“be careful of your thoughts for thoughts turn into words.Words turn into action, action turns into character and character turns intodestiny”

I’m not sure if I’ve quoted it correctly, but I believe you getthe jist. Having said that, and with all intentions, here’s to endlesscreativity, boundless energy, healthy stamina, and painless living. I will bepushing new boundaries, redefining old ones, and picking up where I left off.

Some of that time was spent on freshening up spaces, forinstance the blog banner above.

Some, drawing or jotting down ideas like these.

I hope you’ll join me once again on this new journey. I don’tknow where it may lead, but I guarantee it will be fun.

The cowds always get into the "Spirit" and dress up for the occasion.

Finally home after a whirlwind season of Halloween fun that culminated in the 3rd annual Spirits in Sanford Show. First and foremost I wish to thank all of you that came. Your support and enthusiasm for my work is what has kept me going through some "bumpy" times. It was great to see friendly faces and to meet wonderful new people and Artist. Thanks also to Jeanine Taylor, Mary Shaw and the fabulous sister's Robyn and Susanne for their putting together a wonderful event at Spirits in Sanford.

Despite foul weather the enthusiasm for all things Halloween prevailed. There were collectors from far and wide, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and even Atalanta.

I was thrilled to meet many of you who have been collecting my work from the very beginning and to let you know that those pieces are the "original original's".

Our little get together seems to be catching on thanks to all of you that attended.

I wish their could have been more time to chat with everyone.

I couldn't have physically done the show without the help of the lovely Deb George and her son.

Allen Cunningham look spiffy in his vintage inspired costume. Wish you could have seen his feet. His creations keep getting more inspiring.

It was great to meet artist Deana Ellis who plied her wonderful felted wares.

I was fortunate to have my table next to Monine Brocco and her creations.

In the background you catch a glimpse of Tracey Jean Kraft.

Up Front were the fabulous and eclectic Melissa Menzer

and Pink Eyed Sissies Halloween Jewelry.

Elaine Thomas and Diane Waldron couldn't make it but shared a table maned by one of the galleries sprites.

These were all from the preview Night, unfortunately the pics I took on the day of the event were with a dead battery. One of our collectors was kind enough to send one of his.

Im already looking forward to next years event. If you didn't make this year mark your calendars for next year.

Im just getting a chance to catch my breath from the second stop of this years whirlwind show tour. This past weekend was the annual festivities of Halloween & Vine, now in it's 16th year. Once again it was great seeing old freinds and meeting new artist and collectors. I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support and encouragement that make this wonderful event possible. It is becuase of faithful...familiar and encouraging new collectors that make this show such a sucess for me and all the visiting artist. Faith and encouragement foster hope, and hope in turn brings ideas to fruition.

In the frenzy that is setup and pre-show jitters, I missed some artist.Once my table was setup I had a few minutes to make the rounds before the Hall closed the night before the show, and again early on the morning of the show. I apologize in advance for the quality and spotyness of my photography.

One of the the most magical reasons this show is so wondeful is to be in the presence and company of the whimsical and masterful Jack Roads. His work never ceases to amaze and inspire many of us.

It was great fun to see the return of the prolific Vergie Lightfoot and her creations.

Nicole Sayres shows us some of her wonderful characters after setup.

Another highlight for me was finally meeting the talented Len Betham. If you've ever seen his work, let me tell you the pictures do not do them justice. amazing detail and craftsmanship are evident in every brush stroke and sticht. He was somewher dong the rounds. If you look closely you can catch a glimpse of artist Dennis Hayes in the background. Len was lucky enough to be table mates with David Everet of Chicken Lips directly behind him.

Arbutus Hunters newest creations in spun cotton left me and the crowds just spellbound. I only wish that I had a more crisp photo so that you could see the amazing detail and craftsmanship involved. Up on the stage you can catch a glimpse of Jack Roads and his many admirers.

Who could miss Charles Batte regal creations, that were outstanding.

Of course there were so many others that I either couldn't get to or whose pictures were just not up to pare. Lori Rudolph, Amelia Scheafer, Brandi Mckenna, Lori Ann Corelis, Katherine Weber, Iva Wilcox for starters.

As usual, the line started to gather in spite of nippy weather and quickly rounded the corner as early as 6:30 AM.

The doors finally opened and all the magic and wonder that is Halloween & Vine came to pass once again. I'm already looking forward to next year and another sucessful show.

Of course in just 2 weeks Ill be completing this years whirlwind tour at the 3rd Annual Spirits in Sanford, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing everyone there so do come in join us , it's certaubkt wirth tghe tripic and wonder that is Halloween & vine came to Pass.

Clear Skies!

SpookyTime Jingles Soiree.

Despite doom and gloom forecast and media hype on New Hope's rains, the skies cleared up and most roads and bridges re-opened the day of the 2nd Annual STJ Soiree last Saturday. Thank you to all the dedicated collectors and artist who participated in this event and truly made it a success for us all.

There were lots of familiar faces a couple of MIA's and some wonderful new one's that kept us hoping for most of the day.

Luck stayed with us till early afternoon then the skies stopped cooperating. That is, till Dani shook my halloween rattle at the skies and we were back in business.

Even with all that was about us, rains, floods and hype, not only did people show but many were calling asking how to get around the obstacles and make it to the show. Now those are dedicated fans! bless you all.

The fun didn't stop at the end of the event, Dani put together a great surprise ending for everyone in the form of an after party. Of which, Im just recovering enough to finally make a post. I'm already looking forward to next years Soiree and how this years event will be topped.

A Lemony Season!

My how time does fly! Especially when life hands you lemons by the bushel. All one can do is make lemonade... like mad, and that's what I've been trying to do. So many Shows in the coming weeks. Between commissions and show preparations it's no small wonder that I've been slack on postings, apologies are in order.

Somewhere in a sea of bubble-wrap and boxes I found a moment to put some words together. Albeit disjointed, rambling but words nonetheless. The first shipment went out Thursday and another one sits ready and scheduled to go out next week. Some of the works produced during this craziness you can see below.

I have done as much as I can do before flying off to the first event, the 2nd Annual SpookyTime Jingles Soiree.

Im always grateful for all the encouragement and support from the online community, some of which of you I am now happy to call friends. I look forward to seeing many of you again this year at all the upcoming events. I've been amazed by the scope of work that you've all executed and I've been trying desperately to keep up, I hope I've met the task.

Calamity Jane?

Im seriously thinking of changing my name to "Calamity Joe".

Most of you know of my past health and physical challenges and have been very patient and supportive during my setbacks. Your words of encouragement and support have always given me strength in difficult moments. For that I am forever grateful.

I recently went through some difficult times only to come out of them with more challenges placed on me. I must have some more surgeries in the next couple of weeks. But, I want to assure all of you that have invested in me and my art that I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I will continue to make art. It may take me a little longer to get things don

but... I will "keep on keeping on" till my paint brush and clay drops from my hand.

Now that I've gotten that of my chest, on to some current offerings and WIPS.

Once Upon A Time

One of the things most of us do during the first month of the new year is of course clean-up, organize and plan ahead. I'm no exception, as a matter of fact I tend to do this periodically throughout the year. I'll fly into an organize it now! or I have to much s#!*t moments. Inadvertently somethings that were not meant to be purged end up in the dump bin. But I digress.

This year I paced myself and controlled the manic moments during the purging, I happen to include my computer files in that purge. Well as some of you know I used to be a muralist and did finishes as well. My company was called 2byFaux since there were two of us, the play on words was deliberate albeit somewhat 90's.

During the cleaning I came across some pics of my work Once Upon a Time . I thought it would be nice to share. Apologies for the quality of some pics that were taken at the advent of Digital photography, can you say Sony Mavica?

There were of course the usual finishes, marbling and gilt:

But what I had the most fun with was the whimsical and children's

rooms:

Needless to say the decision or rather the necessity, due to physical limitations to leave that world behind was very difficult. However the joy the work brought me will be with me forever no matter how much the "anal retentive" me finds the need to purge.

Say What!

Could someone please tell me when this year came to pass, it seemed to go way to fast for me, as if to reiterate my surprise my posting is belated. I know some people are just rising as if from a stupor. It's been years since I've fallen into this category.

While others counted down the minutes with anticipation and goals in hand. While most seem to say "Oh well...", this year I fell in this group. Which once again explains my belated New Years posting.

Once again we've embarked on another year! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an even better one to come. New years resolutions begin and some old ones are resumed, since for most people, there are resolutions left over from years past. The thing to keep in mind is to never give up, nothing ventured,nothing gained, not to mention pain .

One of the things that New Years bring is reflection.

For me there is much appreciation. Despite all my difficulties I have been blessed to rekindle my creative spirit, and share it with all of you.

This year, I plan on expanding my horizons beyond Halloween much more and offering many new characters for different Holidays. You'll see some themes that seem to be favorites from years past as well as new and exciting ones. Of course this means getting down to some serious work and maintaining somewhat of a schedule. That includes blogging more often. All this, while trying to work within my physical limitations. With a little planning, some timed rest periods and the help of modern medicine I should be OK.

First up on the agenda is catching up on commissions, so for those of you patiently waiting for your creations, it won't be long before they'll be in your hands. Halloween items will be offered year round of course, but the first new venture will be Easter. Bunnies, hip-hopping and chicks a' clucking in festive vintage style fashions. Stay tuned for sketches and WIPS.

There will be the usual yearly Shows to attend, and the exploration of new venues near and far. I hope this year will be as much fun for my cherished collectors as last year was for me. I hope to meet even more of you, rekindle old acquaintances , and start some wonderful new ones. Happy Belated New Year!

Still Here

Hello everyone. No I've not been abducted by aliens, I'm still here. Here being relative. I apologize for my lack of posting but my plate has been full with some ongoing health issues.

Most of you know of my physical limitations due to an auto accident a couple of years ago.

I've slowly adjusted my activities to work with the limitations I've been left with. Well just as one thinks they've got it down the rug is shaken again.

Due to my newest reality I've not been able to create as often as I'd wished so like my physical limitations my output has been limited. But it's still an output! I'm a bit behind on commisions as well but I hope everyone will bear with me as I work out this next stage. Enough of that!

These fellers are my Christmas efforts so far. For some reasons I've been smitten with snowman fever. I always like them as a child. I suppose it had something to do with growing up in Florida.

Never having seen snow till I was 19 in Baltimore during the Blizzard of 81, snowmen were exotic to me as a child. Frosty being my favorite Holiday TV special.

These guys have a ways to go, but hopefully with some help I'll have some ready for this months STJ posting, and some for Ebay, that is unless anyone wants to put dibs on any of them (hint, hint)

The kitties have been enjoying some glorious weather lately, but that seems to end this evening as we expect to go down to the 30's. Were at 54 now which puts me in the mood to put up my tree. With the help of some friends and hot chocolate tonight seems to be the night. Well, now back to those snowmen.

Catching my Breath!

Well, the last of the Halloween shows I was attending came to pass. What a ride it was this year from September to date, Halloween and Vine seems ages ago, it seems it was only yesterday that I was in Spirits in Sanford and of course I’m still reeling from all the fun had by all at Spookytime Jingles Soiree and after party.

After all the prepping, packing, repacking setup and breakdown, the most memorable moments are those shared with old friends and new ones.

I thought Id share some of those memories in pictures, that is the ones I was able to capture. Why does it always seem you've taken a thousand pictures, then when you upload the camera it's a quarter of what you thought. When you get a chance you visit and since you visited you think you took a picture, arrgh!

Before the setup we had a chance to visit the surrounding areas that were full of promise for exploring and picturesque to behold.

Well folks, I'm just catching my breath between shows. But I wanted to share the fun had by all at the second annual Spirits in Sanford show this past weekend. I apoligize for some of the blurry pics, I think it's time for a new camera.

A great big thank you to all those of you who ventured into the gallery this weekend to grab a piece of of Original Halloween Art and fun.

The Town of Sanford really gets into the Holiday spirit as seen in these pics of some of their window displays including the local newspaper.

Take a peek in the lower left corner and catch one of Joanna Parkers creations.

Jeanine Taylor of Gallery on First put together a great group of Artists this year.

There was Chris Klingler of Designs by CK with his whimsical and elaborate drawings and prints; you can't appreciate the detail until you see them in person.

The Lovely Dianne Waldron of Sew Primitives and her oh-so infectious creations.

A Sweetheart of a Gal, Deb George and her humorous and spooky characters.

The Charming Sara Whitmore and her fantastic mixed media art.

Not even a broken leg could keep an old hand like Melissa Menzer away form a second show, I have a feeling that cast around her leg will turn into some of her wonderful creations.

And of course there was me and my dog and pony show.

It was great fun getting to know all the new artists as we set up on Friday.

The Fun started that evening with a great Champagne reception for dedicated collectors and a raffle. Jeanine put on a spread that would make Martha Stewart proud.

Folks were already in the Halloween spirit wearing their creepiest finery for the event.

It was an intimate event that let artists and collectors get to know each other. I certainly enjoyed it. It allowed everyone to wind down and relax before the big day.

The doors opened and the FUN began. The room soon filled with familiar faces from last year, the night before and excited new ones. I can't thank everyone enough for the warm welcome and encouraging words that were offered to us.

As the day wore on and the tables were cleared by collectors, we all reluctantly tore down our little worlds knowing that goodbyes were at hand.

There were old freindships renewed and new ones forged between artists and collectors.

Now I'm back for a couple of days before heading to the next great event, the First Annual SpookyTime Jingles Soiree this Saturday the 16th with a preview cocktail on the Friday 15th.

Judging from the fun had at Sanford, this next shin-dig being put together by the gregarious and industrious Dani Nelson should will top off my Holiday show Schedule. So don't be late and come join the fun!

The Patry's Over...

And what a party it was. The 15th annual Halloween and Vine has come and gone, but not before old acquaintances were renewed and new ones sewn. A great big thanks to all those of true blue as well as new collectors who continue to support this talented group of artist. It is through your efforts that we can continue our creative endeavors.

I got there a little early so I jumped in and helped getting some of the decorations together with Ginny Diezel one of the original founders of Halloween And Vine.

It wasn't long before others started to arrive like Dani Nelson and Wendy Leaumont from Spookytime Jingles.

It didn't take long to realize I had to get my act together so after a little caffiene fix ti was to work I went, and at the speed of light as you can see!

after a bit I was all set up and ready for the next day.

I apologize for the lack of pics of other Artists booth but when in a rush and at a certain age taking pictures without a tripod produces, shall we say a nebulous result.

I had the pleasure of being situated next to Allen Cunningham his work is so amazingly detailed in person, the scale he works in just blows me away! My hazy pictures did no justice to his work.

David's table from ChickenLips was all set and done as was everyone else's by the end of the day.

An encouraging line of collectors almost 200 strong ready and waiting for the doors to open at nine, many had been there since before dawn, amazing ,right. Thank you all!

The doors opened and the crowds thronged to the artists tables.

Not long into the event did William Bezek's table looked sparse as his collectors picked it to the bone in no time.

One thing led to another and before you knew it in much too short a time it was over.

But the fun didn't end there most of us ended up at the after party held at the Adobe Pumpkin Farm. Great food, lovely live music fantastic crowd all made for a delightful evening. After many goodbyes we were off early the next day. For some reason my TomTom plotted a route back to San Francisco that I had never taken, I went with the flow and was I glad.. the scenery was spectacular as you can see.

It was the perfect ending for a great weekend. Till next Year!

Well I'm a week away from the big show the 15th Annual Halloween and Vine on Saturday the 25th in Petaluma California. What else to do with a week to kill but take in some sights and finally relax. Even though this is just my second year at this prestigious event, I'm still as thrilled an honored to be among such company.

This years creations have arrived in San Francisco and they can't wait to make their debut at the show! If you've been following my delinquent and infrequent postings you have already made an acquaintance with what I call my Village People. Now you can see them for yourself as they make their first appearance at Halloween & Vine.

I've been playing with the Idea of clothed figures for most of this year. Working out the costumes and hats and I think you'll like what I've come up with.

Most of the clothing is based on historical patterns or my interpretation of them. I'v used reclaimed clothing from thrift shop finds in keeping with my recycled materials effort.

I think this source of material only adds richness and character to the pieces.

Of Course I still am intrigued with all paper mache figures so there will be plenty of those for you to pick from.

As well as some of my fun Luminarias! it just wouldn't be Halloween without those.

But mostly I look forward to seeing some familiar faces again and anticipate a lot of new ones as well. My goodness it's only Monday and Im ansty to get on the road to Petaluma and Halloween Heaven, see you all there.

My goodness, this has been a crazy couple of weeks. Between getting ready for the upcoming shows and life's unexpected "pleasure" catching my breath requires timing. I may have been delinquent in posting but it's paid off in work accomplished. So for those of you waiting to exhale at the shows heres a little peek of whats in store.

Those of you may remember my "Village People", well here I am doing last minute touch up's on Heidi. Wait to you see her at H&V.

Attack of the Thumb Head Man! Just playing puppet master for some post cards I have planned. The Fairy will be making a landing at H&V as well.

Regardless I look forward to seeing all of you again at Halloween & Vine on September 25th in Petaluma and on October 9th at Spirits in Sanford in Florida.

My goodness! can't believe I've been this delinquent in posting. Part of it has been a time crunch for meeting deadlines, but that has been aggravated by some medical complications due to past injury. I ask for your continued patience and support. It will take some adjusting but I will continue to create. I just need time to figure out how to work within my limitations.

That being said here is a sneak peak of what some of you can look forward to at the upcoming fall shows.

The first I guess is an influence from "Heidi" or "The Sound Of Music" I can't tell which, it all started when friends of mine said they were going to vacation in Austria this year, my imagination did the rest.

Also a pic of some of the finished pieces including a witch and a Gypsy which my friends tell me must have been influenced by "I Love Lucy" episode were Lucy plays the Queen of the Gypsies.. Gyp, Gyp, Gyp, Gypa Gypsies!

Od course now I'm crunching to finish all the accessories on time to ship. Regardless I look forward to seeing all of you again at Halloween & Vine on September 25th in Petaluma and on October 9th at Spirits in Sanford in Florida.

Trilogy of Terror and GI Joe's

Hey everyone just trying to stay on schedule for the upcoming shows. Life has a way of throwing stray balls at you and I'm no exception. With my busiest show schedule yet my shoulder injury seems to be flaring up badly, hence the lack of postings.

That said, I thought I'd share some of what I've been busy with. My village people got some clothes and hats. I've also been playing with backdrops for them, maybe eventually they can become cards, you never know
.
But they were a little lonely so I started a new batch, thanks to miracles of pain medications. Some friends will be coming by to help me with the basics, priming, base-coating etc. in exchange for pizza.

Creations seem to be coming out of the woodwork or out of the oven literally.

They do seem like something out of Dawn of the Dead, or better yet "Trilogy of Terror".
I know I'm dating myself but does anyone remember Karen Black in that.

The segment was called "Amelia"

She brings home a Zuni doll, the chain binding the warriors spirit falls of, the doll comes to life and the fun begins.

I was terrified for days after, and hid all my GI Joe's just in case.
Compared to today's technology the Zuni doll's movement seem comical, but in it's day it was very effective. The story still holds up it's just the juju that seems childish.
Well I gotta get back to my dolls so that they can come to life in time for their debuts. Thanks everyone for your continued support and encouragement.

She's Baaack!

Hello everyone! First up Talula is finally out of the woods and doing great, thanks for all you well wishes. Just returned from the Vet from removing her stitches. Primarily she was the reason for the lack of post. She ended up having Piometra (hope spelling is right) which is an infection of the uterus. She had to have emergency surgery where upon they discovered it had ruptured causing peritonitis, argh!

Well thankfully as you can see she's back at her perch with her accomplice in crime Cosa, who doesn't seem too happy to share that perch on such a sunny day.

So most of my time was spent nursing her back, with antibiotics, food and love, so that left little time for catching up. Hence the undressed village people. These folks transpired as company for the Widow Jones (remember her) and her Sister Candela, whom you've not been introduced too yet.

I should have them all in decent attire soon so check back.

I was however, able to finish some pieces that I am very happy with. A couple of witches, a scaredy cat and JOL Luminaria.

They are all ready for the upcoming shows. SHOWS, Yikes! I gotta get back to creating.

Hello and Goodbye

Just wanted to introduce you all to these to characters that are about to be sent on their way to collectors, thank you guys for your continued support. They snatched them up from my Newsletter which include a very bad WIP picture of them. You never know!

I had to share them since I am very happy with they way they came out.

First is one of my Teapots, this guy is horrified to find a spider perched on his party hat oh my! His cap comes off and he's a candy container.

Then there is this lovely little darling, she is a terrific Luminaria! She really is something when she's all lit up, of course it helps if your lit up too.

Yesterday was one of those days, you know the kind were you can't seem to get going but your all revved up but can't focus! I took a friends advice and help and reorganized my studio.

Which by the way seems to be spilling into the rest of my Apartment, this use to be my dining room, anyway going through I discovered little objects and sketches for Ideas that never came to fruition. Now my studio is nice and clean and organized, a good thing since now I'm really revved up but have a better direction.

Moral: Clutter can be creative!

"I've Been Enchanted"

Can't believe it's been as long as this since my last post, but I did want to let everyone know I'm still kicking.

I guess in a nut shell it goes as follows. Deadline for National Halloween Convention spun me into a flurry of work letting me meet the deadline, but missed STJ Update. After shipping said works to NHC I noticed that my cub bards were bare for all my upcoming commitments and commissions. Nose to the grindstone again, I worked through a bad shoulder that was acting up, with stress levels flaring, I got sidetracked by one nasty flu and life issues needing attention. Fast forward to now, still at the grindstone but with a little more respect for what stress and a bad shoulder can do I'm pacing myself.

That said right before the literal poo hitting the fan I received a prize from one of my all time favorite bloggers, which leads us back to the heading "Ive Been Enchanted" I had no idea that I was to receive such an Iconic treasure. Tristan over at Enchanted Revelry sent me this wonderful confection of Marylyn. You can pic up one of his creations at his Etsy shop link found on his blogspot.

The pic does not do it justice. Do pass by and visit you won't regret it, his unique spin, humor and gift of a great raconteur will always make your day, as it does mine.

And now a quick peek at my latest WIPS and finished pieces. It may seem like I'm going a little gaga over luninarias but they are fun to make.

Working on some other dolls and figures that are not ready for prime time yet, but I can't wait to share with all of you. All that said it's back to the grindstone for me. I do promise to make more frequent postings, even if it's about my dinner.

EHAG Emporium and "The Widow Jones"

It's that time of month again. Time for the EHAG Emporium and Introducing

The Widow Jones

You'll first notice that this is an out of the ordinary piece for me, but I think you'll agree it is the start of something wonderful to add to my repertoire. "Fully attired" paper-mache figures, in this case a Day of the Dead Doll.

Here she is, the Widow Jones. She is a hand made and painted paper-mache doll figure, with an original handmade period costume. She measures 22" tall from her wooden base to the top of her feathered hat, 9" wide and 12" deep from from front of skirt to the end of her ruffled train. The fabrics range from reclaimed black cotton chintz to vintage black lace trim. I've embellished her with wonderful detailing and accents like pearl studded bow buttons, and a vintage cameo pin that she dons on her lapel. She sports a milliner's confection top hat with feathers ,ribbon, bows and tulle veil, trimmed in accenting purple ribbon. Her bustle and overskirt are in a flocked damask pattern that is also an insert in her bodice. She holds a carpet bag made of old tapestry fabric with braided leather handle and button bead clasp. She has an underskirt bustle with ruffles of cotton poplin. Standing on a wooden base her red high top boots peek out from under her voluminous skirt . She is packed and ready to travel to your home for a prolonged visit.

Yesterday I got a pleasant surprise I wanted to share with you all. A friend of mine called a couple of days ago and said he had " a thrift shop find he said had my name all over it". I said great would see hem Sunday, thought nothing more of it and went back to work.

Sunday came around and so did my friend Carlos. Well Lo and behold the surprise.

A vintage scale model of a human skeleton! Isn't he wonderful! Not only is he a great reference for my work he is a great decorative item for my home and studio. Not to mention a great Halloween decoration. Can you imagine him all spruced up as a centerpiece on my Halloween Buffet table.

Can't wait till October comes around, love them bones.

Don't forget the update on the EHAG Emporium tomorrow evening.

If you've been wondering why the lapse in postings, well scheduling had much to do with it. First off I'm happy to announce that I was asked back to this years Halloween & Vine. I look forward to meeting some new artists. Some from STJ if person for the first time, and of course friends I made last year. It's the 15th Annual Show! I'm so excited. So I'm gearing up for that along with my regular sales, commissions and other events.

More pressing is the pending deadline for the upcoming STJ artist Participation in the National Halloween Convention. Dani Nelson is doing a stellar job in promoting and organizing this gargantuan venture. I only wish I could do more to help her out. Don't miss this one!... sure to have a bright future as a new Halloween Show to be at.

Then of course there is the Monthly EHAG Emporium on the 31st.

WIPS and The 3 Phases of Eve

Yes I've been MIA for awhile since I started to pay attention to life a little, you know not life in general which is wonderful but to the day to day responsibilities.

In between I did manage to start some new pieces which are of course my latest WIPS as seen in the quick pick. Seems Im cuckoo for teapots lately and don't forget luminarias.

Then of course is my skelly doll WIP Eve. I name her such only because of the 3 phases of her ala Joanne Woodward in the classic " The 3 Faces of Eve".

Anyway she's one my heart and most of my attention lately, as I keep tinkering with her.

I might have gotten carried away with her "unmentionables", especially since they will be covered up, so now I've started some Chorus girls to show off their figures.

Most of you have seen her in her second phase with the petticoat bustle, she is a bit more demure but her ankles are still showing.

I finally finished her garment, you can't see the front of the jacket but her buttons are bows with pearls I think it came out rather nicely. She sports a stylized hat and veil, a little stretching of the period authenticity. She is widow luggage in hand she's ready to travel, a carpet baggers bag which I'm still working out. She still needs some embellishments before she makes her debut but so far so good no?

Sidetracked by a skirt!

Some of you might remember me mentioning dabbling with doll making on my last post. I showed my first attempt with the devil doll. Well, while working on my teapots and luminarias

I needed a little change of pace so I started a new doll. A skeleton doll I thought, simple enough.

Then I started playing with clothes patterns and settled on a Gothic 1890's clothing that I could have some fun with. Of course that meant a bustle so I tackled that feat with some minot adjustments.

On I went with the jacket, that's were the trouble started. I knew I was in trouble when I started dreaming about simplifying the pleating, seams, ruffles etc.

I worked out most of the kinks but still along way to goes! I was planning on starting the skirt and said, " wait a minute I gotta get back to my painting. It's been a two day detour!"

So back to the brush for awhile and the skirt goes on the back burner for now, but keep a look out she may return at any moment.

When they began to begat!

Look what the bunnies where up to! As bunnies do, they begat..LOL. I like the new bunnies and can't wait to add the paint. They'll have to wait thought, cause this bunnies gonna be hopping all night in order to have Ma and Pa ready for STJ Hootinany on the 13th.

Meanwhile back in Halloween town I've got a couple more pieces in the works. Two luminarias, a cat, a JOL with hat and a very angry teapot. They-re one of the reasons I've fallen behind on the rabbits. I'll be glad when I can be Halloween-ing round the clock after Easter.

The last note is about some new directions. Well actually this is a new attempt at an old idea. Back when I started, dabbled in doll making but was not happy with the results or process. After working on my regular figures and thinking out a new doll process I'll be making some now and then. Any way here was my first attempt.

And now I gotta get a hoppin!

WIP Update and EHAG Emporium Debut!

First off, don't forget about tomorrows debut of the EHAG Emporium, January 31st at 9PM . I am proud to be a part of EHAG (Eclectic Halloween Artists Group) a wonderful group of artists. These artists specialize in creating one-of-a-kind Halloween collectibles. EHAG is now opening the doors to the Emporium...a special blog dedicated to showcasing one work of art from participating member. Here's a sneak peek at my offering.

Next is an update of for the Valentine pieces I was working on. I swear I feel like I am working as slow as molasses! There are two candy/gift boxes that I've finished as well. They are also bobbing heads.Hopefully they will be posted tomorrow on eBay under hohohalloween of course. That is if the cold doesn't slow the molasses further.

I think they came out rather nicely if I do say so myself. You've already seen Mr. Heart who is holding flowers and is hiding a ring box behind him.

Of course you all remember the bunnies I started last week.

They now are joined by a little chick.

Well at least that's what I was going for. Actually I think it looks like some kind of killer chicken or "Kung Fu" chicken. Don't know please tell me what you guys think.

WIP update, New WIPS and wishful thinking?

Hello everyone, been trying to stay busy and productive. Thought you might enjoy an update on the recently started WIPS.

The luminaria, and witch seem to be coming along just fine. I like the colors and patterns on the witch. Need to get her hat done, then I can get her opened up to work on the container part. The teapot is almost ready for paint. I put it aside to start some basic shapes to keep going once these are painted. I seem to work better and more productively if I have enough materials to keep shifting from one to the other. It also gives me a better feel for where a piece is going. I mean, If I get stuck on one I can alway switch to another, then come back. that way I don't feel unproductive and the flow keeps coming, in theory anyway, LOL. Sometimes you just can't get blood from a turnip!

One of the "other" pieces I started are my bunnies, very rough shape right now, gotta go back to the drawing board on them.

Luckily I found some fun bits and accessories for them that should point me in the right direction. I think the ears are too big!

Speaking fun bits, while making the rounds for those serendipitous treasures I cam across this little ditty.

Which leads me to wonder. Should I try growing him in the bathtub or the local swimming pool? I figure the more room to grow... LOL.

I guess that's were the wishful thinking comes in to play. I dare say I'm not the only one!

Lastly don't forget the EHAG Emporium Venue premiere sale this January 31st. Featuring many of our favorite and talented artist from EHAG. It will be a monthly event on every 31st of the month. Hope to see you there!!

Belated Greetings and new WIPS!

Please bare with me for my lack of postings due to unforeseen priorities that arose. As I get those under control I hope to resume posting regularly. That said, Happy belated Everything to All! I must take the time to thank all of you for your support and encouragement that enables me to continue this thing called HohoHalloween.

I finally have my studio back and ready to start full gear for this year. I had rearranged, reshuffled, and reorganized in anticipation being extra productive for 2010 back in November. Of course life had other plans, hence the delay. I've so many Ideas and plans in store that I know will be exciting for us all.

One of those will be a Newsletter to keep everyone abreast of my latest offerings, events and community news.

Here are my latest WIPS in progress. We have a teapot, luminaria and a candy container for Halloween.

I also have a sneak peek of an offering for Valentines. He'll be holding a bouquet of flowers in his outstretched hand and be able to hold a ring box in the hand behind his back. At least thats the plan.

Don't forget to check out this months offerings at STJ. I was not able to offer anything this mont but will be back strong next posting.

Also I hope everyone will be looking forward to EHAG's upcoming Emporium on the 31st of each month.

The Wizard of Oz and Thai green curry

My how time does fly. It seems like only yesterday I was posting for Halloween. Now here I am planning Thanksgiving feast and trying to get a move on on my Christmas creations. You can find some at SpookyTimeJingles or on eBay under seller hohohhalloween of course.

I digress, most of last week as I was working away on whips TV in background, I notice that a lot of stations kept playing The Wizard of Oz. That film holds special meaning to me besides the obvious reasons, an American Icon, Fantasy, costuming, sets and of course Judy Garland at the onset of her meteoritic rise to fame. The following pictures are from that experience.

Many years ago, (Oh my this phrase seems to be creeping in on my vocabulary more and more, eegads!) I had a Murals and Finishes Business, a friend of mine recommended me to his client for a project that he thought I would be perfect for. The project involved a surprise birthday party for a family nanny that had not seen her own family in over 20 years. It seems this wonderful nanny's favorite all time movie was of course the Wizard of Oz. I know, I know the obvious comes to mind, "there's no place like home" click your heels and nanny is flown back for reunion with longing family members.

Well sort of, you see the plan was to recreate some of the sets and characters at the party then spring the family on the unsuspecting nanny (she had no medical conditions we checked LOL). Costumers, make-up (friend and me) and set designers (me) were brought in. It was one of the most magical experiences I ever had and challanging. Those backdrops where about 30' x 50 long, We had 3 weeks to prep. Needless to say the logistics and planning required a production coordinator, luckily we had all been in the film industry at one point or another so that made things easier.

The research was phenomenal I poured over every book on the making of the film, googled costumes, characters and ebay, and elndlessly watched the film. I primed, drew and painted to my hearts content as you can see in the pics.

How they managed to keep the nanny away from the house for that long I'll never know! We also had time for a bit of fun. One day some of the costumes that were too complicated to make arrived from Western Costume. One of those was the Flying Monkey. I had just finished the backdrop of the Yellow brick road that leads out of Munchkinland into the land of Oz. The temptation was too great. I donned the costume (it was hot! and didn't close at the back). Luckily this was a grand house with a landing that overlooked the Great Room where I was working and the set was laid out. I laid out on the backdrop in my best flying monkey pose and my assistant snapped away.

Next came the Emerald City. This was to be the backdrop for the actual Birthday dinner. Surprisingly that was done fairly quickly despite a little glitch in painting. My assistant, I discovered, has a classic color blind sensitivity to the color green, I'll say no more other than the Horror!

We came into the last week of madness. Final make-up and wardrobe test were completed and then the big night.

We pleaded to be there for the reveal of course, and as long as we stayed out of site and did not interfere with the events it was copacetic.

All the guest were hidden, the players in place when the Limo arrived. It pulled up to the Port-Coche. Out steps the Nanny who was under the impression she was to pick up and escort the children to the airport. She was greeted by Glenda who informed her that she had been such a good nanny that she would be taken to OZ. She was then escorted by the lollipop gang into Munchkinland, little houses and flowers included. They were of course interrupted by the Wicked Witch who was scared away by Glenda. Then she was greeted by the lullaby guild who took her to the Lion (the nanny's husband in disguise), they in turn met up with the Tin Man, and Scarecrow who finally took her to Oz. There she met up with Glenda again who told her to click her heals three times and close her eyes. When she opened them there, in front of her stood the her Parents and siblings (5 in all) and her husband revealed. The reunion was no less moving or joyous than the movie.

At that time we decided to exit quietly through the kitchen, sampling some of the catered affair.

The three of us were starved the closest thing around was a Thai restaurant. As we sat there, reveling in having been a part of such a magical experience and how it seemed that we had somehow been transported back in time to work in the movie, the waitress arrived.

"what would you like this evening? We all looked at each other and almost in unison said "green curry anything" .........of course what else.

Trick or Treat! I'm late !

Apologies for the late blog entry. Been down with a cold and trying to jump into Christmas. Before I start that I must let you know of the Tricks and Treats that pulled on me this past Hallows Eve. With the help of some friends I decide to go all Bogie Book and Martha Stewart Halloween Party. That was the Treat.

On went the baking, cooking, concocting, sewing and general last minute insane preparation that alone I could not have accomplished right now. That day my studio space and home were transformed to Bogie Book Heaven.

First to set out were the appetizers, concocted with the finest ingredients of witches fingers, warlock toes, quick sand dip and petrified cheese roll.

Then the Trick the phone began to ring with cancelation after cancelation. Eeeh Gads! The four of left decide to bravely go on, mostly going to the bar and blamed the waning Moon.

But of course the treat was yet to come with the sound of the doorbell as those missing began to pop in! Hurrah! Upon such a splendid trick being pulled the revelries began. Cameras were forgotten, or pictures too blurred to post, but still some survived to tell the tale.

For the squeamish that's pretzels, humus, and herbed dyed cheese. Don't it look yummy!

After such fortifications one needs a little liquids to help with the digestion of such varied and exotic fare. Of course one finds the potions center.

Where one can quench their thirst with these devilish concoctions. A pitcher of Bloody Mary's or Pumpkin Slush spiked with dragons eyes.

By now after a couple of swigs and bites, one's appetite does grow and you can turn to the main event.

I love the color of my Blood dressing for the swamp greens and root salad. It went wickedly well with the main course as you can see. Who I ask can resist Albino Bat Chili with Serpents eggs. (chicken and white bean chili) Skull shaped corn bread, and Raven Black Rice (dyed brown rice).

After such hearty fare witch or warlock needs a little sweet to finish off the feast. What could be better than a another table full of treats

Hello all, I can see I'm not the only one that's been busy with shows, commissions, and sales. The Spirits on First was a great success for it being the inaugural. We had people come from all over the state and even some from across the border in Georgia. Which is wonderful cause it lets us all know that there is a growing market across the country. I'm already looking forward to next years events there and at Halloween and Vine.

Well I thought I needed to take a break and start getting ready for Halloween in earnest. First off please check out my listings on ebay under the seller hohohalloween of course! They'll probably be my last halloween items.

I have a couple more commissions left that I hope to finish this week and then I plan to relax till the big shingding next week. Actually it's just a Halloween dinner with friends and family but I go all out for my favorite holiday, so I'd thought I'd share my Halloween home decor with you all. Mind you I just started there's more to come.

I try ti mix old and new all around the house. The vintage items mostly stay in a cabinet due to our lovely Florida weather which loves to eat away at ephemera.

As you can see, my decor starts at the front door with a great wreath I picked up at Home Goods one year. It just sets the mood for what's to come.

You step into Halloween right away with orange vases, witches and cat throw pillows and of course my Halloween tree. It's a whopper! Department 56 put it out several years ago. This one's the 4 foot one that's been retired. Still not enough room for all my goodies.

At the base I have one of my favorite vintage pieces, it's an Owl luminaria from my best guess is the sixties. It stands next to a modern Target cat luminaria.

Up the tree you'll again find some vintage with modern glass ornies

I'm happy to have acquired a William Bezek hula girl skull to add to my growing Skull grouping. Thanks William I love her, and also you Witch candy container that fits right in with my other witches.

In one corner I have my cats which include a Johanna Parker candy container that sit next to the Devilish corner. I love making the crepe paper lamp shades to add that vintage feel you see in the old Bogie Books.

Even my coffee mug gets into the act. I love this halloween mug. As I drink the little treasures reveal themselves, in this cas it's a witch.

And of course the scenario wouldn't be complete without that little lady herself ..........Talula, getting into the act. Say CHEESEEEE! .

Hey all not much of a post, just a note. Been prepping for the upcoming "Spirits on First" the inaugural, annual Halloween Show in Sanford Florida. You can read more about it in a blurb in Celebrate 365 Magazine.

Hadn't had much time or energy, (shoulders acting up again) to make anything new. Keeping up with commissions during show is madness. You are sooo sweet and patient in understanding the limits of this human body. It should all come back to NoMRal! next week before the mad Christmas rush. I'll be getting all those special gifts to petaluma out to you, as well as wrapping up some commissions.

I can only say thank you for the support and encouragement shown September 26 at "Halloween & Vine" and everyday on the blog and through emails.

Those of you in the Orlando area come check us out this Saturday 10 from 9-4. It's 10 Minutes from orlando and you'll find lots more to do in Historic Sanford. There is also a Harley Convention in town.

Well.... better get to bed early so as to be fresh for travel and setup tomorrow.

Halloween & Vine 2009

After being MIA, I Finally have come down from the cloud that is Halloween and Vine to post. That, and taking a breather from prepping for next weeks inaugural show of Spirits on First in Sanford Florida.

Where to begin. As if being in a show with all that amazing talent wasn't enough, the welcome from them was the icing on the cake.

I was warmly welcomed by Ginny Betourne, Scott Smith and Christy Silacci upon arrival. Then the fun began, I said hello to all the other artist Laurie Hardin, Johanna Parker, William Bezek, Susie Scott and all the others. Everyone was busy either setting up their tables or helping setup the hall. There was a sense of camaraderie as everyone did there part.

I must admit, being my first time I was a bit overwhelmed with setting up and was not able to help as much as I'd liked to. Evidently,to my surprise,I brought so many pieces that my table looked like a carnival, colorful and jammed packed.

The hall looked great even the lighting got into the act after festive lamps and streamers were added.

After a long day of setup we all had a wonderful dinner together , I was too busy eating to take any pictures, by this time I was starving.

The morning of the big day I arrived early for last minute adjustments and was surprised to find fans had formed line outside the hall since 5:30 AM. The excitement was palpable in the air.

After a warm welcome and pep talk from Scott the doors were swung open.

The collectors were so enthusiastic and generous in their praise and they expressed it with their support by buying anything that wasn't strapped down. It was hard for the established Artist to keep up with the pace, so you can imagine us new kids on the block. What fun we had! It was so wonderful to see the faces of the people as they browsed in wonder at all the goodies to be had.

I met so many wonderful collectors and I thank them each and everyone, for their support.

I had time to meet Dani Nelson from Spooky Time Jingles in person. Fellow artist and collector who flew in from the east coast to participate in the event. She is a wonder of support and marketing wiz for all of us that are part of that family.

The following pics speak volumes of the talent of each and every artist that participated and the smiles on out faces lets you know the fun we had. I hope I able to be a part of this show again in the future and developing the new friendships from artists and collectors alike. Enjoy, see y'all next year!

The Final Strech

Had a wonderful couple of days with friends here in San Francisco showing some sights familiar and some out of the way. It was a beautiful day at Union Square, a little warm for SF but hey I'm from Florida. It seems everyone is getting ready for Halloween and Vine next week.

We went to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for an Avedon photo exhibit and ran into a great vignette of modern furniture by a local Artist, (shame on me for not taking note of the name) that was in keeping with Halloween. It was a chair, table and floor lamp inspired and done like bones. Note the spine of the Chair. Brilliant!

The following day we went to the Cantor Center Museum at Stanford University, and I fell in love with an exhibit of Pacific Northwest Indian inspired art. This mask caught my eye and I'm sure you'll see a figure or ornament come from it.

The next day prepared myself for what I thought would be a long wait for UPS delivery of my shipment. I was pleasantly surprised to have them arrive by 11 AM.

To my horror some of the packages were pretty banged up. After spending the rest of the day unwrapping them again I was pleasantly surprised to find very little damage. A big sigh of relief!

Now I'm really in the home stretch, can't wait for show on Saturday. Hope those that can make it to Halloween and Vine will stop by my table and say Hi! If you can't make it, make sure to check out the site and discover a world of wonderful artist.

All hands on Deck!

Hello all, back after missing in action for the last couple of weeks. I was unable to post Since I was leaving ealrly for San Francisco to house sit and visit friends before Halloween and Vine. Consequently the was a mad rush to finish for the show. In the end it was all hands on deck and late evenings. So musch so that if you look closely I’m wearing a wrist support in one of the photos, it helps with shoulder pain.

If all goes as planned, the shipping arrives on time and I’m well recieved at the show it will all be worth it. Actually getting to meet all the other talented artist and making new freinds and followers alone will be worth it.

After a very long connecting flight from Boston we arrived in San Francisco late Tuesday evening, or I should say Wednesday morning by east coast time, I was paged over the intercom. I knew that the overhead voice bore no good tidings. Indeed it turned out that our luggage was left in Boston, of course I had packed some last minute items that were missed in the mass shipping for the show, Arrgh! I didn’t feel as bad when the other unfortunate passengers with missing luggage turned out to be a bride whose wedding dress was missing. By the next morning all was well, at least for us as our luggage was delivered.

The weather is a little warm for San Francisco , not to mention me but it is still beautifull. I can’t wait for next week, the show is only 10 days away.

Work! Work!

Hello everyone, it's been awhile since my last post yet it seems like only yesterday. First off let me thank you for all your lovely comments and support. I've mostly had my head buried in work trying to meet the show deadlines coming up. All of a sudden I looked up and around me and this place is beginning to look like Giapetto's workshop! I took a break and decided to share some pics of where I'm at.

You can see the finished version of my onion man, that I blogged about on my last posting. I am very happy with the way he came out. He'll be making his debut at Halloween and Vine this September 26th.

What a cry baby! but I love him. He's gonna be a hard one to say goodbye too. I'll just have to make more veggie people won't I?

Some one else that will make an appearance there will be my decked out witch. She was sitting on my shelf unfinished for some time until something jelled. She's all decked out with a veiled hat and mock crock valise. She's all set to go, I wish I could say the same.

I haven't finished the back of her hat yet but she's coming along nicely.

Some other fun pieces that I actually finished in this latest batch were my candy container boxes. I haven't done these in awhile for lack of boxes but I was able to get a hold of some square ones that I caught my fancy.

Their heads jiggle on tinseled coiled wire, they are very animated when handled.

Lastly while I was taking some pics of what I've gotten done guess who thought it was all about her. In between setups she must have decided she was ready for her close-up. This is Talula!

She was rescued from the brink of death a couple of months ago with a really bad cold. She's worked her way into my heart much to the Chagrin of my other cat Cosa. She has brought much inspiration to me. She reminds me of the starlet character in "Roger Rabbit", her name escapes me now, I think it was Jessica Rabbit. Anyway her line was was that she was just drawn "bad". Well the same goes for Talu, she looks mean but is a real sweetheart.

Well back to the trenches.
